Pros

great compensation package and learning center. Learn to multitask and do more with less

Cons

Constance stress over management plan to bring the company back. Plan are ad hoc and can change day to day. No two managers are on same page of the play book. Procedure and accountability differ from shift to shift, closer you get to the deadline the shift at the end is totally accountable.
The new MRP program is a effort to save the company and up rite the ship that been sinking for years. But they did not look at staffing requirement before initiating thus they are hiring new talent with higher skill levels and have existing employee's train them to do their current roles. Current employees are told that they do not have the skill needed so therefore the can not advance upwards.

Management puts in place review goals yearly but only after they come up with them in January and filter them down in March. It would be nice if they could think ahead a year so they could really show some leadership. Every year it the same no goal in place have to wait for the new direction of the company instead of having a plan in place.

Advice to Management

Promote from within there are quality people working there. Give the staff a road map on how and what improvement must be made for them to get to the next level. Don't pull the rug from under them coach them up, hire for the positions they vacated. These people have a vested interest in the Companies success. Upper level management need to have a long range plan and it has to be communicated down wards. And always remember that the staff on the floor is what Sungard produces to the customer that the product.

    Pros

Benefits are competitive and schedules are great. There is a level of autonomy and dress code is relaxed.

    Cons

Policy changes almost daily and without formal documentation. Tools are substandard for a billion dollar company and management turnover is greater than engineer turnover. Promotion is rare as opportunities are scarce. This is due to the shipping of American jobs to India.

    Advice to Management

Pick a direction and go after it. Look at more successful companies and try to follow some of their examples. Kill the "Follow the sun" approach and bring jobs back to America!

    Pros

I worked as a technical support rep from 2007 to 2008. The IT team was knowledgeable IT professionals who helped to mentor and nurture my growth. They were great people to work with. A lot of responsibility was placed within the tech support level in terms of administrating very different systems. It was a good environment to learn a wide variety of skills and the IT managers were great in terms of fostering trust and support for the team.

    Cons

I know Sungard has moved to Google mail platform now from Lotus Notes, but Lotus Notes was always a big headache both in terms of speed and the complex password system. Password rest was one of the most common supports calls. In terms of advancements, there really was not clear path for tech support reps which is one of the reasons I left. Also due to management changes, the environment had suffered. As last I had all tech support was outsourced, which I feel was a shame knowing how tech support once functioned.
