I worked at Sungard Availability Services full-time (more than a year)

Pros

Pay is competitive
Decent benefits
Great coworkers
Liberal remote work policies

Cons

Constant reorgs and layoffs
Requires employees to pay for travel out of pocket and get reimbursed
Depressing work areas with vast empty poorly lit cubicle farms and dirty and worn out office furniture
No training
Management lacks focus, direction, and integrity
Outdated and disjointed internal systems

Sungard claims they want to be the IT employer of choice. They really should be the IT employer of last resort. New hires are dumped in depressing work areas and given little or no training or orientation. While the people for the most part are helpful and friendly, there is an overall morale problem brought on and fostered by frequent layoffs. Upper management's solution to every problem is to "reorganize", which is a euphemism for layoffs, and then rehire the positions of the staffers who are the victims of management's ineptness and lack of vision and customer focus. My best advice if you must accept a position at Sungard is to keep looking for something else while you're working there so that you can lay them off before they do it to you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize that when an executive constantly feels the need to reorganize his organization the executive is the problem, not the organization.

I have been working at Sungard Availability Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay for cell phone and happy hours.

    Cons

Too many to list, have adopted a call center attitude, sales reps. report to three managers. The managers are not in it to help you they are in it for themselves and to build their castles, which was one VP's own statement. The company has cut comp. plans year over year and once strong name in the 90's early 2000's is now a revolving door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advice to senior management be honest with your employees either sell the company like it is rumored to do or start treating your employees like you did in the early 2000's with respect, especially the top reps.
