Pros

Residents are lovable and adorable

This company completely lacks ethics towards:

Care-managers
food servers
housekeeping

The best pay rates and salaries are given to management while the most personal and extremely laborious positions are underpaid. I was completely appalled to learn how much pay raises were, and even more so that for someone to finally gain a decent, livable wage they would have to put in at least 6 years plus. Many of the employees have families, it's not easy to support your family with the pay here. In addition to the low pay management abuses employee rights with respect to work schedules, and inappropriately favors the schemes created by there select group of favorites. Often the few that aren't favorites are forced and threatened to accept shift changes. It has been common for an employee who addresses the inequalities and the culture of management and their select favorites, to lose their job. The aforementioned is most evident of the Reminiscence Coordinator.

This company operates under the image of equality, respect between management and staff, but shortly after joining the team you learn quickly how little your voice, and hard work actually matter. The company generates an employee survey to see how well the company and its management team are doing for their employees, but many are too afraid of losing the jobs for stating the truth. Truly sad.

In addition, growth in the company is an illusion. I've been told stories of the Reminiscence Coordinator refusing an employee advancement in the Assisted Living community because she needed her to stay where she was. The manager even went as far to persuade the Assisted Living Coordinator to not accept this employee. As a result, the employee was so completely disappointed and upset ; she never pursued advancement with Sunrise thereafter.

I know times in this economy are extremely tough, but please educate yourself before accepting a position with this company. The inequality of pay and employee rights are not worth it. Employees will often subtle and stay on staff for too long because they know the hardship of securing a job is a battle. Just make sure you keep searching for a position with a company that will compensate you right. Corporations have, for too long, secured healthy salaries for themselves while the employees who work directly with residents, with heart and hard labor are undervalued.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be ethics training and auditing because employees should feel rewarded and rightly compensated for their work. This is why many are for having a union. The most disappointing part of working here is knowing that the company was started by two people who did the hard work themselves in the beginning, trying to build up their dream. They know how much heart and labor it takes to care and run the hard task to make a person in the final stages of their life happy and comfortable. They should reevaluate their purpose and the way their company runs.

    Pros

    Great Company to work for. Love the residents and the atmosphere. Not a nursing home. This place gives you thr opportunity to build a relationship with your residents. You share great memories with them while making new ones. Love sunrise!!!!

    Cons

    And not all employees are as compassionate. Some people may have a difficult time understanding that with this age population patience and diligence is the key.
    Also be prepared to be on your feet and do some lifting. But still overall great community.

    Employee appreciation needs to be something that sunrise recognizes more. Also making sure that there is no short in staff members. Some buildings have a problem with this more then others

    Taking care of seniors is always demanding on your personal life. That is a sacrifice you have to decide to make.
