Former Employee - OUTSIDE SALES in Harrisburg, PA
Former Employee - OUTSIDE SALES in Harrisburg, PA

I worked at Supermedia full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Good pay, benefits were decent , other coworkers were fun to work with.

Cons

Micromanagement. Nothing was ever good enough. "It's not what you sold yesterday, it's what you sold today". There wasn't enough kudos for a job well done, but there was plenty to hear when an account would decrease thier ad.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a path and stick to it. Make sure you give your employees positive feedback instead of only dwelling on the negative. Just because an agent is good at sales, doesnt mean they're good at managing people.

I worked at Supermedia full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Use to be one of the best companies to work for when it was NYNEX, and progressively got worse; Bell Atlantic, Verizon, Idearc Media, and then Supermedia. Benefits were great at one point, and pay/compensation was great. I was fortunate and was able to retire early with pension still in tact.

    Cons

Micro managed to a ridiculous point. More interested in selling the "flavor of the day" than what is best for the customer. New hires get it worse than veterans. Industry is perceived as dying, and internet products are not as well received.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More detailed reports that are factual for customers and sales reps to believe in for internet products. Partner with Google because that is what the customer wants!

I worked at Supermedia full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, friendly co-workers, & earning potential*. I say earning potential with an asterisk because there's a chance for good earnings but you must know how to work the system and have extensive sales skills.

    Cons

Lack of future vision, bad upper management, & bad online product value for clients. Yellow pages work for some but not for most anymore. I can't remember over the last 10 years actually using a phone book. Other ad firms are taking over digitally and Supermedia is falling drastically. Customer service it at a all time low and customers are dropping out YOY.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in new online technology. For starters: How about real SEO, Mobile ads, and CMS websites for clients.
