I have been working at Swiss Colony as an intern for more than a year

Pros

Good benefits and a relaxed environment. The work environment is friendly and informal and upper management is very engaging with lower-level employees.

Cons

The company has very low turnover which means less room for advancement. Monroe is also a small town with few choices for entertainment, making it less appealing for younger professionals.

    Pros

Swiss Colony, part of the larger company named Colony Brands is family owned which leads to a long term view rather than the quarterly performance of public companies. This Family owned company has also avoided the leadership degradation of some and maintained a good quality management team. The company has been consistently profitable for decades now and they have a strong cash position to ride out future troubles and make wise investments. They have good market diversification through the 15 different catalog brands and a highly diverse product mix. They use a very unique go to market niche with a credit offering to sub-prime customers; one of only two or three catalog retailers that use this strategy. It is the key to their success since the products would not sell themselves without this credit offering.

    Cons

Very long term employment of most permanent staff which can lead to head in the sand attitudes. Also limited career growth due to lack of staff movement.

In addition the company is in the catalog retail segment which continues to struggle as a industry. Keeping growth going will be a constant struggle but it appears to be managed for the foreseeable future.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please work to maintain the strong commitment to the employee force and ensure the good employees are rewarded and retained.

I worked at Swiss Colony full-time

    Pros

There were as many hours to work as you wanted during the winter holiday months, but they are quick to drop hours down to 15 per week the rest of the year

    Cons

There isn't much room for growth with the company and there aren't many hours available during the non holidays to make it worth working more than part time college work.

    No opinion of CEO
