Great pay, nice campus, passive-aggressive directors & VPs, kiss up/slap down culture.

Principal Analyst (Current Employee)
Mountain View, CA

I have been working at Symantec

ProsAbove average pay, no hassles expensing whatever is necessary. Really great campus and cafe. Very easy to work from home. Teams are spread across multiple Symantec sites.

ConsThere are many "lifers" who have survived multiple acquisitions by laying low, not doing much work, and dealing with issues secretively.

The VPs are extremely passive-aggressive and have created a breeding ground for paranoid, discouraged employees. The exceptions are the employees in Europe, who are phenomenal and great to work with.

Symantec is very segmented and people identify themselves by the companies they came from. Newer hires don't tend to stay long.

Some groups are fine and others are toxic - it completely depends on the lower level managers.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't kiss up or slap down. Your jobs are not simply to keep your jobs. Don't tolerate disrespect. Encourage collaboration across groups.

One of the most difficult years in my life

Senior Product Marketing Manager (Former Employee)
Mountain View, CA

I worked at Symantec

Pros: - Compensation was fairly competitive - Good location in Mountain View - Cafe wasn't… Cons: - The Storage and Availability business was one of the most toxic places to work - Management was downright disrespectful to employees. There was a lot… Advice to Senior Management: -Symantec seems like a pretty good place to work outside of the Storage and Availability business. Try to replicate the working environment in the Backup… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More
