    Pros

They have a nice Gym. Located in Sunny California. Its a good company to start your career in if you have just graduated from college.

    Cons

Pay is comparable to what your initial job function will be. Yet they will demand more and more from you, Promise you a promotion or raise to motivate you to then tell you to make you strive to do more. yet when it comes time to their one year review.... "You didn't do enough" and everything is biased on seniority. You can be the most talented person that the division or company has ever seen, do double the work, and in the end it means Jack. Ingenuity may be fostered but not rewarded.

Sales for some reason gets a lot of Praised at this company. The majority of the time they are at the company gym or eating at the cafe. in addition, the Sales reps don't know what they are trying to sale. They tend to just transfer the customer to a Technical or Customer Service department, while still maintaining a nice base wage and collecting the commission off the sale that was handled by another group.

Company has become stagnant, Gone through Three CEOs in a two years time. And has been cutting back in a effort to maintain resources. Any new generation knows Antivirus is dead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has been working at Symantec for decades appointed due to sonority. Majority of them because of this are unfit to lead a team due to lack of skills.

Don't play around with your young talent. Holding onto your old sentiment mentality of seniority and praising those who are lazy but have been around longer is what is causing your company to look bad, and remain stagnant. Furthermore give credit to where it is due.

I worked at Symantec full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Symantec pays well and has solid benefits. There are many talented, customer facing people working in the field. Many of the solutions are well reviewed by industry analysts.

    Cons

Although there are many good managers at Symantec, they are far out-numbered by the bad. Generally the managers closer to the customer are better and those farther removed from the field are the ones responsible for the strategic mis-steps of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Steve Bennett flattened the organizational structure but the managers he got rid of were the ones closer to the customer. There are still too many managers who look the part but don't know the products and the customers.
The company is too Mountain View centric now with most of the marketing and strategy coming from the west coast. The sales teams are not organized in a very functional manner now unless it is for the purpose of selling off part of the company.
