I have been working at Symantec

    Pros

Great team of smart engineers, flexible schedule and time-off, competitive salary/benefits make it tough to consider leaving. Management trying to improve process and improve communication between teams.

    Cons

Typical corporate bureaucracy. Too many layers of management that get in the way, and process and meetings for the sake of process and meetings, instead of really focusing on the just improving efficiency. Very inefficient and tough to get anything done. Also innovation is discouraged and is typically shut down, esp. when it comes from the bottom up-- because the "decision has already been made".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on some real direction and vision, and communicating that message across the company. Also, value your front line employees and trust in them to innovate for you, and get out of their way. You'd be amazed at what they could do if given your vision and direction and given the freedom to be creative. Get rid of a few unnecessary layers of management and get closer to your employees. This will help twofold; you'll be able to communicate your message better, and you'll be able to get direction and input from the bottom up.
