I worked at Synagro full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There are many great people (from a personality perspective) that work for Synagro. Many folks who have labored long and hard at the company. The company makes a reasonable attempt at decent pay scales for EXEMPT employees. The same cannot be said about the pay for NON-EXEMPTS. The company does a great thing for the planet as a result of their services. Company paid Long/Short-Term disability benefits.

    Cons

This company has more turnover than any company I’ve ever seen and they seem to not like acknowledging it. People resign without having another job in process. It says much about a company’s leadership when they can lay off masses of employees the week before Christmas! They have had several layoffs recently in addition to losing YET ANOTHER CEO and VPs. VPs got PAY INCREASES at the same time the layoffs were occurring. Nothing is secret at this company. It’s obvious to everyone except the leadership team that the company is too TOP heavy. To top it off, the company gave bonuses that were a percent of a percent, which only added insult to injury. It amazes me how there is so much discussion about paying us hourly employees $1-2 more per hour and so easy to add thousands of dollars to management team salaries. There are lots of home-grown talent within the company, which has directly impacted the bad business practices. Bloviating management team members who are all talk and no action. This company operates in antiquity, with communication throughout the organization being very poorly executed. Employees working in slum and dirty conditions with the HR/Safety teams doing little-to-nothing to improve it. This is a very territorial environment and if you accidentally step into someone else’s area, you WILL hear about it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Private Equity firm needs to really look hard and long at the value they are getting out of all the VPs at this company. Stop allowing the company to fire employees who KNOW the business and retain the idiots who continue to run the company in the ground, after all, that’s how you got to this bad period in the first place. Get a grip on all the stuff that’s hidden under the carpet at the company, those are the problems of the future. Start taking care of the hourly workforce instead of penny-pinching them for the money they get. Stop doing so many things in secret, because what is done in secret will eventually come out in the open. VPs who fly first class air flights, but can’t spend a few dollars to get crews proper maintenance on their vehicles; managers who get paid for work they aren’t actually doing…it ALL has to STOP!

I have been working at Synagro

    Pros

Synagro has many dedicated talented professional hard working people who have been with the company for years and years that keep driving it forward today.

    Cons

Incompetent and inexperienced upper management. This company used to be a great place to work. Many poor decisions have been made in the past few years and countless numbers of VP's have been hired. The company has become too top heavy. No raises for workers who've been around and know the business, many are losing their jobs. Management talks a lot about strategic planning and making the budget yet nothing to show for it. There was recently another change in our CEO. It's too soon to tell if he will be any different but the workers of this company are very unhappy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop the nonsense and get rid of all the unnecessary positions that were created a few years back with the first new CEO and get back to what foundation was there before. Treat people with respect and give incentives. Find out what their needs are to do the best job possible and provide that. Stop taking away. Reward your workers.
