I worked at Sysco full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Competitive Pay, Competitive Benefits, Rewarding Career with opportunity to advance. Sysco offers the finest product available for food safety and has clearly earned its right as #1.

Cons

A very independent position, but somewhat micromanaged depending on who your District Sales Manager is. The hours are very demanding, and if you are not careful with time management, this position can bleed over into your personal life.

Advice to Management

Let your performers flourish, step back from the micromanagement

    I worked at Sysco full-time

    Pros

The people are great: competent, problem solvers. Nice variety of benefits. Seems like something new is coming at you to resolve all the time - no time to be bored here! Crosstraining encouraged. Executive management cycles through around the five year mark - not too quick to learn the new culture.

    Cons

"Do more with less." "Work smarter not harder." and without the upper management support you may need. So employees have to figure the new situation out for themselves. Managers carry department workloads as well so formal training programs are non existent. Conversion to Shared Services Center for Accounting has and will continue to put a few thousand people out of work nationwide. Don't know as the conversion to SAP platform was the right choice for food service company. However, now a few years and hundreds of millions dollars behind schedule, there is no turning back. Work-Life Balance for exempt employees is too far skewed towards work. Career opportunities usually involve relocating to another city.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes the company tries to run too lean; increases stress and turnover. Maybe one more person in the department to spread workload would increase productivity well over their payroll expense.

  2. Used to be a great place to work. Growing increasingly cut-throat.

    Pros

Decent benefits and most departments work together well.

    Cons

Pay dwindling fast and workloads are very demanding.

    Advice to Management

Better rethink your compensation to your employees. Turnover is going nowhere but up.
