I have been working at T. D. Williamson

    Pros

A company that fully supports it's community. Well established company for someone who is looking for stabillity.

    Cons

Opportunity for advancement is non-existant. Slow in moving towards new technologies, management seems to be set in their old ways. Managers don't offer praise and seem to belittle their team consequently productivity and job enjoyment is low. Performance rewards need improvement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start listening to the people under you. We have some great knowledgable people wanting to do some great things within the company but are being smoothered by managers thinking more about their retirement than growing the company.

    I worked at T. D. Williamson

    Pros

Solid company. Interesting technical problems. Team building has been successful. Great working environment (when the heat and A/C work). Lots of free snacks in the break room!

    Cons

Low Pay. Poor chance at advancement. People who can't successfully implement software themselves are promoted to lead.

IT Budget is low, It director tries to sell staff on the following: 1. They are lucky to have a job in this economy. 2. They are actually not underpaid. 3. That if someone works here long enough, they will learn their job and be competent. 4. That consultants do not know as much about the technical details of each product as the underpaid, trained in place staff....

IT infrastructure does not know how to provide adequate hardware for the ERP and CRM applications. 45 users on each Terminal Server, running 4 heavy applications with only 12G of RAM!

-No BA (Business Anaysts or Business Process Engineers) on IT projects. Poor or no requirements documentation, design specification docuementation, and test and use cases.
-No Project Management or users self PM on large ERP and CRM projects.
-QA and user test cases completely absent.
-Heavy use of foreign nationals and offshore talent in key IT technical and architectural roles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Increase IT budget.
Instead of hiring cheap, foreign nationals, hire a few really sharp folks as BA / Architects / PM / Technical Resources.
Buy and hire American before your customers (American Oil Companies) find out what you are up to.
Raise the budget and the bar it R & D.
Get out in front of the competition with a Smart Pig that works better, cheaper and faster than the other guys.
