Pros

flexibility, location, people are mostly good

Cons

no room for growth
compensation is brutal. Way under industry average
They are taking away all sorts of benefits

Advice to ManagementAdvice

start listening to what the employees are saying. Having 15-20 great employees leave the past few months should tell you everything you need to know. Pay more

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management, especially in IT, is paranoid of change because it is perceived as a weakness of their existing operating procedure. Management needs to align with the new reality of 'Working Smarter' rather than 'Working Harder'. Since TALX has grown out of earlier mergers and acquisitions, there are many groups within the IT organization that don't like each other. Career advancement/professional growth happens only if aligned within certain groups. Decisions are made with no forethoughts and disagreement is perceived as challenge by management. One can succeed with good 'Good Old Boy' country club charm only.

Overall, a good place to work

I have been working at TALX

    Pros

Management is very understanding about the need for time off to take care of familly and other personal obligations. Other employees are consistently friendly and inclusive to everyone. The benefits package is, I feel, about average compared to similar companies/jobs, maybe even a little better than average. The company does try to promote from within when feasible, and announcements are made when someone moves into a higher management role. The company also hosts many different types of fundraising events for the community and encourages volunteerism outside of the workplace with its matching PTO (vacation time) program. College tuition assistance is offered up to a certain limit per year.

    Cons

Very little exposure to other departments is readily available. Most employees have little to no idea of the broader structure outside of their specific role. The best way to combat this is by asking a lot of questions, but even then, it can be difficult to determine who the best person is to ask. The workload in certain departments can be extremely overwhelming, and as a result, some departments are full of noticeable tension.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better recognition for a job well done from employees' immediate supervisors would make a phenominal difference to worker morale. In addition, I think many employees would love an opportunity to learn about other departments and roles available outside of their immediate area of expertise.
