I have been working at TCF Bank

Pros

1. Benefits (although they are expensive)
2. The immediate staff are great people to work with
3. Great location
4. In my position I don't have to report to an immediate "in house" supervisor
5. About 2 weeks of paid vacation (includes sick days, total)

Cons

1. Staff are expected to clean the branches. The cleaning crew is paid very little so they do very little
and the staff are expected to clean behind them
2. Marketing and technology is outdated. TCF not willing to venture into new avenues of marketing.
3. Untested procedures and sales pitches. The higher up make up stupid things that the sales staff have to say, which have not been tested and do not provide any positive growth or results
4. All branch music has been turned off to save money
5. Cannot buy trash can liners anymore, to try and save money
6. TCF does not uphold it's promise to employee's for referrals; will promise a referral fee to employee's for business the employee brings in, but TCF higher ups always figure out a way to avoid paying this fee to their employee's
7. They expect you to do over 4 different positions along with your own position and still pay you the least amount of any other bank in the area; they are taking advantage of their employees
8. Bonus structure is constantly re-aligned to keep from paying bonus to their employees
9. Whenever something breaks at the branches, it takes at least 3-6 months to get it fixed
10. Most customers do not like TCF and are rude and mean; yelling at staff and cursing at them. One time someone actually pooped in the sink and another on the floor
11. They do not give raises to those deserving. One employee has been here 9 years and has not received one raise; another was promoted in position but no pay increase
12. Constant negative correspondence from higher ups
13. Constantly changing "the rules" on dress code, procedures, etc...
14. Make staff take silly testing on silly "catch phrases" stressing staff out to study their phrases that have not been tested or proven effective.
15. The Colorado manager is always changing the rules when policy states something different
16. Procedures are not tested before put into effect. Higher ups just make things up without consulting branch levels on if they work or not.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice for TCF Bank is that they need to believe in their people. I have seen so many people come and go here, VERY high turn over rate. The employee's here are loyal and try to sell your crappy products and TCF higher ups just take more and more from the employee's without realizing how miserable they make them. What business now days doesn't have "office music?" The only little bit of motivation that we have, taken away. Your pay is the LOWEST in the entire state of Colorado. And when new ambitious people come to work here, you shoot down every new idea they suggest. Why? After all, your ideas seem to be working great *sarcasm*.
You constantly change products to put customers in bad situations making them close their business with you. Your lending interest rates are the highest in the country. When you make referral fee's for your employee's, honor them. Don't make up excuses to not pay them. Quit changing bonus structure and allow your hard working employees to "earn" an extra buck for doing a good job.
Here's a thought, put your branch staff and your customers in front of the CEO's wallet. And listen to their ideas. Keep in mind that they are the ones on the front end that know what is going on with your business before you do, and they are the ones representing your company. Don't you want them happy?

I have been working at TCF Bank

    Pros

Pretty good pay for a college job. They like to hire from within so getting a job out of college would be very easy. You don't have to stand on your feet and you get to learn a lot about the banking business.

    Cons

Pay is pretty poor for dealing with so much money. You are forced to push sales down peoples throats and have to continue to do so even though most people really don't care for TCF. Poor management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care more. This is your job you should take more pride in it.
