TCF Financial – “Good work environment, but not a lot of promoting going on.”
Pros
TCF is a great work community. The employees are all very friendly - it's a warm environment. Supervisors are very mindful of your need to maintain a good work/life balance. I've never had any issues needing time off, especially on short notice. Co-workers are very supportive to help fill-in while you're out or swamped.
Cons
The benefits aren't the best. Disability is provided only on a voluntary basis, and that's not available until after one year of service. Health Insurance seems to be a bit on the high side. PTO on the lowest rung is 16 days. TCF Equipment Finance (although they say otherwise) is not really set up to motivate employees. The hierarchy, at least in sales, isn't one that is climbable. I would say many positions at TCF are dead-end.
Advice to Senior Management
If TCF Equipment Finance really wants to attract and retain top talent, they should implement a program to teach young, ambitious people the business of leasing. In addition, there needs to be a path for success and movement. Many people at TCF have been doing their same job function for a long time and do a great job at it, but to attract very competitive people a different setup should be put in place.
