I worked at TDS Telecommunications full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Great bunch of people to work with. You get a lot of training and learn a lot that you can take elsewhere or just add to your resume. Pay and benefits are good. Their HR staff really puts the "human" in Human Resources. This is a company that cares about their good employees and will support them when life gets tough.

Cons

Advancement is difficult unless you play office politics. Perks, like the ability to Work At Home, are not given out on a fair basis. It's the old cliché of "It's not what you know, it's who you know."

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The metrics upon which your performance is based are not true statistics, even though you refer to them as such. They do not give the meaningful data that reflects actual performance that would provide a fair basis for positive vs. negative reinforcement, therefore bad behavior goes unpunished and good behavior goes unnoticed. Both are bad for moral and result in poor customer satisfaction. Case in point, remember when you mandated following the flowlists (which was already a rule, breaking of which could result in termination) and the call times went so high that you rescinded the mandate??

    Pros

    Pay if you work hard can be great

    Cons

    Stressful. If you can get past the stress you can do well.. but it is present regularly. If you aren't worried about losing a deal you are worried about an install. TDS has a great product but it is not the easiest sell.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Spend some money. Update the order writing process. It is hard to believe we used to have to hand type all orders when you could easily make a web form that shoots something like this out and keeps mistakes from occurring.

    Poor management, HR dept. will show you the door if you have a complaint about anything
