Pros

The people, executive leadership, and work benefits all make TELUS a great place to work.

Cons

Mid-level management can be stifling and unable to make decisions, career opportunities are better if you join from outside the company, compensation is lower than peer organizations in general.

Advice to Management

Improve the efficiency of decision making at middle management, move to a bonus and compensation structure that more directly rewards star performers to avoid losing top talent.

    Pros

A stable, aggressive and data-driven company. TELUS does care about its customers, and wants to distinguish itself based on the customer experience.

    Cons

Little appetite for risk-taking. Little appetite to be the first to do anything. Too many layers of management and a little too much cult of personality going on.

    Advice to Management

More autonomy to your business units, give room for people to innovate, take risks, fail and do something remarkable. The current culture talk about innovation but the management layers stifle it. At this rate, you will attract and retain B players, who while sounding very polished, accomplish little that's truly remarkable.

    Pros

The company offers a lot of training opportunities to Star employees.

    Cons

If you can speak the correct language and convince the management that you are a star, then you get a lot of training, recognition, salary increase etc.

    Advice to Management

Each team is made up of Stars and contributor. Given opportunities to those contributors who work hard even if they are a little quiet or shy about their accomplishments.
