I have been working at TIAA-CREF full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Decent Pay, Nice Quite workplace, friendly staff, 1st year 20 days PTO plus 8 paid holidays and 2 floating holidays (used like PTO), Awesome 401k matching and they also pay a certain percentage of your salary based on age into a retirement plan. generous amount of overtime available and they buy lunch pretty often for everyone on the phones.

Cons

Health care is more expensive than my previous job, too many old systems.

    Pros

I honestly can't think of anything positive about TIAA-CREF. I'm not a disgruntled employee, just don't want someone else to experience this horrible workplace.

    Cons

    culture of blame and fear
leadership is out to maximize their bonus by exploiting direct reports
no work life balance - you are their slave - yes really
disrespectful behavior allowed and encouraged to get results...or "get big bonuses for leadership"
    corrupt Human Resources Department

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have no advice as Sr leadership doesn't want to hear it. They like their big bonuses and will do anything to keep that going. Sad.....no conscience, no soul, no integrity required to be part of leadership team at TIAA-CREF.

    I worked at TIAA-CREF full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good PTO and 401k match

    Cons

IT almost always seems to be in reorganization/restructure mode. Cronies are brought in by senior management as they believe hey have all the answers. Good, solid and knowledgable middle management is let go to accommodate these new directors/managers who soon find it isnt as easy as everone believed. The poor people that have held onto their jobs are placed in a ridiculous position to carry the additional burden. Unless you are part of the newest senior managements 'good list', you can kiss any growth opportunities and advancement goodbye, regardless of how good and knowledgable you are.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

With all due respect, Mr. Ferguson, your Senior IT team is pulling the wool over your eyes and selling you bad info. This is not disgruntled talk, it's the truth. There have been many, many more than qualified folks let go who could have performed better and brought better team building skills, trust and excitement to the 2,000 folks in IT. Shame on TIAA-CREF. The picture painted is it not reality
