Horrible, too many clients get dumped on you re-assigned from other advisors who left the company running for sanity.

Current Employee - Wealth Management Advisor in Chicago, IL
Current Employee - Wealth Management Advisor in Chicago, IL

I have been working at TIAA-CREF full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

It was a job totally misrepresented to me and sadly I bought their line of bologna. You get three weeks off but you will end up working most weekends so does it matter?

Cons

Management thinks having 600+ clients per advisor is acceptable. Some clients do not belong there. Quotas of how much in new assets from outside the company is the holy grail in measuring your worth. Fall behind, you are dead in the water and your manager will not help you at all. Teflon management.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out of your ivory tower. Get more crc's on board to handle existing clients. Let wma's get in front of new clients.

I worked at TIAA-CREF as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Nice campus, good facilities, fair pay. Good people to work with. Good equipment

    Cons

They had long hours, high demand, with low incentives The expectation is to do more with less. It was not the best environment for a female to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people like more people not slaves. Give them incentives to motivate them to achieve reachable goals.

I worked at TIAA-CREF full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits are great everything from health insurance to gym memberships. Overtime available, paid for lunches, immediate/low-level manager very easy to work with when need time off.

    Cons

Didn't carry through on original job offered. Interviewed for Investment Advisor, but pulled a fast one and ended up on entry level call center Operations position. Training was strained, computers used were outdated and slow. They spent too little time discussing the investment products and their suitable uses. Traning methods were childish, no preparation for client base. Too much focus on systems, technology and not enough of products, and their suitable uses.
Spent most time assisting irrate clients with website access and operations/back office disasters. The computer system is circa 1978, still using MS Dos and Windows XP with a maze systems that did not communicate nor tied together in anyway. Company spent too much focus on things like "Donut Days" and bake sales, and other foolish outside programs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your recruiting/interviewing methods are misleading, and deceitful. You don't know how to place people in the suitable positions based on industry experience. Just shove them into position where company needs. Join the 21st Century, your technology is terrible and outdated. Andrew Carnagie is spinning in his grave. This could not have been his vision!!
