Pros

Pension is like no other. The benefits are also competitive. Advancement is slow, but opportunities are there through the job posting system.

Cons

Churn and lack of consideration of knowledge of longer-service employees. Constant restructures every year since Herb Allison took over as CEO in 2001. New CEO now hopefully will recognize knowledge and experience of employees there more than 2 years.

Advice to Management

Stop the churn, let the dust settle. Also, reward your top performers with more cash and incentives than is being done. They say it is a pay for performance culture but there isn't much differentiation.

  1. A complete disconnect between Senior Management and the rest of the company. A Shoot the Messenger policy.

    Pros

Benefits! The retirement benefits are great, and the vacation time is generous.

    Cons

Senior management will not hear bad news. They have a policy of "Shoot the messenger", and as a result, no one is willing to be the messenger. This makes Senior Management completely in the dark about major issues that are common knowledge to the rank and file. There is a complete disconnect between Senior Management and the rest of the company,

    Advice to Management

Spend the time to do some investigation yourselves. Develop an atmosphere where people can provide honest feedback. This will actually serve you in the long run, and you will not be blindsided by problems when the blow up, as has been the case in resent years.

    Pros

TIAA CREF has great facilities and comfortable atmosphere. The people are friendly, helpful, and easy to get along with.

    Cons

TIAA CREF does not value its employees, they are overworked and underpaid for what is expected of them.

    Advice to Management

Senior Management needs to understand that they will succeed or fail based on how satisfied their employees are with their position and compensation. Constant mandatory overtime because of poor decision making on the part of the Senior Management is not a great way to conduct business. Choosing software that does not fit the product line being offered and then offering zero training or support to be able to do the job is not good business practice. I could not believe that I was expected to use Omni software dealing with peoples money and had never had any type of hands on training. I am glad that surgeons are not allowed to do surgery with only having read a textbook about it. This was the same situation. Expected to clean up a bad decision by Senior Management with no training to do the job. What do expect the result of that will be? In addition, from what I understand, it was not necessary because there were other software options available that were more compatible. I wonder who got paid to choose OMNI STATION?
