Pros

Great place to hang out and do the minimum necessary in just about any group. Almost impossible to get fired, except marketing occasionally chases people out. If you're in Engineering, you can find some good stuff to do that will give you a good product on your resume.

Cons

Lack of senior management direction, beginning with a CEO who lacks any experience outside the organization. Product Management and Marketing leadership is weak and has little influence on the Engineering organization. Overall senior management is comparatively weak vs. peers in the industry. Marketing budget is limited and spent unwisely. Product Management lacks leadership. HR is treated as a legal compliance group, with zero investment in developing internal resources. Compensation is a favoritism system and nobody knows how it works. Company focused on avoiding mistakes, instead of focused on successes.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Vivek - sell the company and retire. Acknowledge that you've done well for yourself, and then get out of the way. Or else, decide you need to get rid of the senior management team and hire people who will challenge you.

    Pros

There are GREAT products at TIBCO--you can't beat them so you can be proud that you are at a company that doesn't have to lie to sell.

    Cons

There is no concept of work/life balance at TIBCO. If you want to work for a company where you can comfortably stop looking at your blackberry after 7 pm, TIBCO is not the place to do it. There is very little (if any) visibility into how you earn a good bonus, so as the year end gets closer it pays to be as visible as possible to the executive staff. There is not a very long memory in terms of what an employee did early in the year as it pertains to bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure that those you put in management positions have the knowledge to run the groups that you have them in charge of. If they have never worked in that group (at TIBCO or elsewhere) it might be a good indicator that they are not the choice for that role. Also, stop being afraid of the truth. You have great products, you don't need to lie about results.

A lot of opportunity squandered by poor management.

    Pros

Plenty of opportunity and good named customer base. There's so much constant change that it almost always means a good opportunity pops up if you work hard and keep you head down. The customers are great and they put on a really good annual user event. They make pretty good, highly complex products that many Global 2000 companies use. Good cafe and pretty good benefits.

    Cons

Marketing attrition is big. Around 90+% over 3 years there. They lost so many of their good marketing leaders and it's rudderless. Executives aren't well respected and for the most part nicknamed "FOVs", which means "Friends of Vivek" (the CEO). There is very little leadership to look up to and most often people feel like there is no guiding strategy, just case after case of changing direction and having to sprint.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell the company, it's obvious you don't know how to manage for growth and Vivek will never make the hard call to oust his friends.
