I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (more than an year)

Pros

Working at T.J. Maxx you get very diverse customers, and because T.J. Maxx is so big you gain more experience in different departments. A lot of situations happen to build your "STAR" behavioral experiences.

Cons

Sometimes management felt unprofessional, they didn't know how to deal with the situation as well. Policies kept changing so management felt unorganized.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

More employee recognition. Happier employees, better customer service.

It was great, a lot of micromanaging, but my co-workers made it bearable.

I worked at TJ Maxx part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

You get first pick of all new merchandise before it hits the sales floor, co-workers are super cool and don't mind picking up your shift and switching days when needed, always met interesting customers, you get to shop as you work (sometimes), and there is room for promotion. You have a variety of older and younger co-workers and they become like family

    Cons

Standing on your feet all day, dealing with rude customers and customers who put the money on the counter instead of your hand, cannot have your cellphone on you (like in high school), and the associate discount is only 10%(tax).

I have been working at TJ Maxx part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

You get to see merchandise as it comes out if you are interested in shopping. Some regular customers are very friendly. Employees are like family with each other.

    Cons

All managers run things differently and there is no continuity between them. This statement is true for all aspects of the store from dress code enforcement to return policies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Check up on management frequently and check in with associates on how things are run.
