Current Employee - Merchandise Associate

Pros

-Management has been trying to help me move up in the company
-Fun putting out all the new merchandise
-Don't have super late or early hours (I usually work at 9:30AM
-Some great people and managers
-Customers are nice for the most part
-A lot easier than working at a larger store and less stressful

Cons

-I was hired on to become a coordinator. This was over 7 months ago and they still keep beating around it. Now they can't because there are no full-time positions open. Be aware that they love to have people as part-time.
-Low pay
-Non-consistent hours. Some people only are getting one or two days a week.

Good job, not great pay, very behind from a technological standpoint.

Current Employee - Lead Loss Prevention Detective in Dallas, TX

    Pros

Very good company that cares about the community and will give back during hard times. Most positions are minimum wage but loss prevention does pay significantly better. The company is expanding and is working diligently to grow into a 40 billion per year company. Excellent internal promotion possibilities on the store side if your willing to devote yourself.

    Cons

This company is all about saving money so don't expect to be offered a competitive salary. You have to fight for any pay raises and the yearly raises are a joke. You can get promoted but don't expect them to give you what they would give an external candidate. This company loves external candidates and many times won't even hold interviews or post open positions if they can find a good external candidate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You talk constantly about internal development and complete IDP's yearly but rarely give a promotion to an internal candidate. If you will offer an external candidate 45,000 but will only offer an internal candidate an max 15% raise, don't be surprised when they get upset. The least you can do is upgrade from a technology standpoint, it's sad.

Current Employee - Coordinator  in  Los Angeles, CA
Current Employee - Coordinator in Los Angeles, CA

    Pros

No real pro's, they keep everyone part time, I presume so not to pay benefits etc. At least in my store the management is friendly and allows you to work with autonomy rather than micromanaging. Ver large company, so fairly corporate and staff discount at all tjx companies, TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Marshalls (although discount amount is minimal)

    Cons

lowest salary is minimum wage. Hard work in a fast paced environment with very little customer thanks due to the discount environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value the staff more in terms of pay and progression, high turn over due to the low pay means that the doors keep revolving and you lose the worthwhile members of staff because their value is missed. Management do not communicate opportunities to the staff. Also signing customers up to TJX credit should result in the staff getting a financial reward, this is the case in most other businesses offering the same service.
