Talbots was a good starting off point, but I feel that it needs to put more faith into its employees and their knowledge

I worked at Talbots

Pros

Friendly environment.
Claim to promote from within
It is in the midst of re-branding itself still so it is an exciting time to work there.
The "new" president seems to be very dedicated to the brand.

Cons

Do not value the knowledge and work of employees enough.
Promotions seem to be based solely on the amount of time you worked there - but should focus more on how hard you have worked and what you have to offer.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust in your employees more.
Treat even your younger employees of professionals.
Be fair in your salaries.
Be understanding of employees needing a work-life balance, and be more flexible with the hours.

They know how to hire good people but, do not know how to develop and grow employees from within.

    I worked at Talbots

    Pros

Fellow sales associates and lower level management and clients are nice. Discount is nice. Its a clean and comfortable environment.

    Cons

Having worked in a high volume store for years, you get worked to death. Being full time is brutal physically. Management fails to reward employees who consistently contribute in high sales numbers, customer satisfaction, team building, and that are very reliable. Loyalty and taking ownership of your job and responsibilities are often and consistently overlooked or ignored. In addition, management of fellow employees behavior on the sales floor in regards to bullying other sales associates for sales is at best weak. Current members of the sales team stereotype customers by their looks, speak of politics and religion on the sales floor. If you want a place to work your way up, this is not it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay good attention to your sales associates who produce and work long hours. Look out for them in a productive way. This is how you build your sales numbers. Create a positive environment by taking care of your employees and being supportive of their efforts and energies and successes. Reward them with advancement when earned and desired. Last but not least, managers at all levels need to work as a team and not let there management issues or issues between themselves trickle down to the sales floor to associates and customers alike. This is counter productive and does not make for top sales numbers.

    I worked at Talbots

    Pros

Clothes-They do have some interesting pieces
    Pay-Competitive with similar brands
Location and Atmosphere-Usually more upscale and refined
Co-workers-I have met a lot of interesting and nice people through Talbots

    Cons

They are very selling focused. And they do not pay commission for your efforts. Oftentimes their demands are desperate and unrealistic and they do not know and or care about that. They are a hurting company. Their inventory control is out of whack and disorganized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to please everyone. The numerous metrics that associates must figure are silly and a waste of time-that is what computer programs are for. Allow for more support staff so management and associates can focus more on selling the way you want them to.
