I worked at Target full-time for more than 3 years

Pros – Lots of really nice and smart people, strong and consistent processes, lots of focus at corporate headquarters on developing its employees and planning their careers, generally fair meritocracy, great ability to see your work impact millions of shoppers around the country, great ability to quickly assume a huge level of responsibility quickly

Cons – Difficulty effecting change due to increasing levels of bureaucracy, slow responses to shift to online shopping, decreased emphasis on fashion and trend due to greater focus on grocery and commodities.

Advice to Senior Management – Let the merchants be merchants! Keep them focused on finding the best product, the best brands, and getting out more in the marketplace. Know when to follow the rules and standard process and know when to let the merchants break the rules.
