Pros

At Target you have the opportunity create very cool change for the company change wide.

Cons

The vacation time is actually on the lower end in addition to the fact that the company doesn't encourage you to work from home so they really keep you in Minneapolis

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company treats their managers OK but their hourly employees I feel bad for.

    Cons

There are plenty of best practices but it really depends on the store whether they are followed or not. The turnover is extremely high and you may report to several different executives in a short length of time. You may also have to fire a lot of people depending on the store.

    Advice to Management

Have realistic expectation of the team and treat your employees as an asset not a replaceable commodity; as the market changes this will hurt the company long term. HQ roles a lot of policies out yet they are no where to be seen in day to day functions of operating their business.

I worked at Target as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

They paid well and were relatively flexible with some things, like employee dress and when your work day begins and ends (as long as you are getting everything done).

    Cons

They have a system of giving "feedback" such that you feel like you are being psychoanalyzed. They ask you to change not just concrete things that you do, but also things that seem more like they are personality attributes where individual differences should be tolerated. They seem to want "diversity" in only the most superficial ways. As far as personality goes, the more the same you are the better. A lot of emphasis is put on going to meetings and talking about projects, so much so that more of your day is spend talking about the work you are doing than actually doing the work. This makes time management difficult, and results in most employees working very long hours. The culture is excessively fake and perky, and not fitting into this mold naturally makes working here very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Make the review process less psychologically probing and focus on the concrete things that people can do to improve their work. Find a way to reduce the extraordinary amount of meetings.
