I have been working at Target full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Being part of a great team. If your dedicated and hard worker, they make room for your growth.

Cons

Having to have a degree to make it to salaried positions. They used to grandfather you in, now must have a degree and can lead to having fresh out of college leaders who don't understand the retail experience, and who soon leave.

I have been working at Target part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Get paid to work out in a positive work environment. Great place to work as a part-timer as it has a flexible work schedule. Good culling of workers - employees that have bad work habits (i.e. frequent call-offs) are laid-off immediately.

    Cons

Despite being over-qualified myself, promotion from team member level to team leader or ETL is difficult. You stand a better chance being considered if you re-apply for that position at another store. Corporate jobs are centralized in Minneapolis, MN - so no luck with getting into say ... Marketing. Not eligible for health benefits or 401(k) coverage until you have served 1000 hours or equivalent to 6 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within, nurture, and train. Have faith in your loyal, long-serving, and disciplined down-line staff. If they have stuck it through for 6 months with a good record, why not nurture such talents?
