Target is fine but don't plan for a career there.

Former Employee - GSTL in Pittsburgh, PA
Former Employee - GSTL in Pittsburgh, PA

I worked at Target full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Never get bored, room to move to other departments but don't expect big raises.

Cons

Your schedule is at the whim of management, which of course varies from store to store. Some stores are extremely understanding about having a life outside of work. Others will hound you into quitting or fire you.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be aware of what you require people to do and whether they have the resources to actually achieve these goals.

I have been working at Target part-time

    Pros

Scheduling and availability is pretty flexible.

    Cons

Just about everything about this job sucks. A lot of the customers are rude or just plain stupid. The hours are dumb: 5 and a half hour shifts with one measly 15 minute break. By the time you walk to the break room you might as well turn right back around and go back to work! And speaking of breaks, the GSAs and GSTLs like to forget when it's time for your break so a lot of times you'll have to ask them if you can go so you don't starve during your shift. The pay is garbage and IF you get a raise it's literally pennies. The ETLs don't do anything except sit in their offices eating and make you do things they don't want to do or don't even know how to do because they spend the whole day in their office. Every five seconds one of the bosses is reminding you to "ask every guest to apply for a redcard" aka harass people to open a credit card that they don't want. In closing, this place BLOWS. If you end up working here, look for something else and get out ASAP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to do the basics. You look stupid trying to boss people around but you can't even work the register.

I have been working at Target full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Nothing is right at Target.

    Cons

    Disorganization.
    Fake "team spirit".
    Lies
They under-staff and expect you to do the job of 3 positions.
They force RedCards down each customer's throats and threaten you if you don't reach enough customers with them.
    Politics are very rampant here.
Not a professional job by any stretch of the imagination.
    Poor management.
Only care abut profit and not employee or customer experience.
    This corporation is pure evil.
When they say "Expect More. Pay Less.", they mean they expect more from their staff and will pay them Less.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As if they would listen. Ha!

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
