Pros

Great people who want to do great work. A collaborative environment. The Fast Fun and Friendly culture at HQ is genuine. The work itself can be very fun and rewarding.

Cons

Sometimes promotion criteria is a mystery and an exceedingly political process. Due to strategic missteps, our transformation to being a truly multichannel retailer is not moving fast enough. Layers of bureaucracy makes getting things done difficult, especially new initiatives lacking a standard playbook. It is hard for individuals to move across "pyramids" which drives many people to leave the company.

Advice to Management

Work harder to get the unfiltered truth from team members. Stop focusing on just the headlines, since this causes the painful truth to be filtered out in order to "tell a better story". Worry less about process and more about making the right business decision. Empower your people to deliver great results. Ultimately, create an environment where the best decision for the business and the best decision for one's career are the same thing.

    Pros

Everyone is very friendly and supportive. It's a fun place to work and fairly flexible if you're taking classes, but it's nearly impossible to get full-time hours if you're not working for a Super Target (or other high-volume type.)

    Cons

Nearly impossible to move up, I was told by one of my managers that they'd rather hire out than hire an employee who was just as qualified but was already employed by them.

    Advice to Management

    PROMOTE FROM WITHIN!

  2. not worth the pay

    Pros

the people. always something to learn.

    Cons

The pay. Apply to costco or trader joes or any decent paying retailer first. Also, target is a cheapass that doesn't hire nearly enough team members and attempts to try to get 40 hours of work done in 30 hours in an attempt to cut costs.

    Advice to Management

Learn what the "planning fallacy" is. Learn to better allocate work between sales floor team members. Have overnight get more done so day team has time to *actually* be helpful to guests, to back up, answer calls, etc. Teach new members how to work efficiently (which is probably even more important than working fast). Learn to better maximize productivity, etc.
