I worked at Target full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

It's kind of fun when you are young, until you realize what a waste of time it is, you can move up easily if you are even slightly competent.

Cons

You are expendable- they don't care about you, tried to force me to work more after I clocked out, management always changing, pay is terrible, my store intentionally gave bad reviews so they didn't have to give good raises.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your ETLs and STLs in the same store, what is the point of moving someone across town? Treat your team members with respect-they aren't cattle or slaves, and I know they work harder than you do! Especially at Christmas.

I have been working at Target full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Huge company, a lot of room for advancement
    Focus on individual development
    Consistent strategy
Gives back to the community, plenty of opportunity for volunteer work

    Cons

Beginning to be much less stable. Layoffs are now commonplace.
It is a company where who you know is more important than what you know. How you say something is more important in many cases than what you are saying.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership tends to surround themselves with people who agree with them. There is not a lot of room for dissention. Diversity of thought is a concept that is preached about but not really accepted. Look in the mirror - how often do you find people disagreeing with you or challenging a decision vs. telling you how great and smart you are?
