I worked at Target full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great work community. Coworkers are friendly and easy to work with. Manager treats you as a human being

Cons

The pay is barely over minimum wage, but room for advancement is there. Sometimes work load is large, which means you'll be having a busy night

Advice to Management

Train team leads, and LODS to consider employee idea more thoughtfully. Sometimes the people at the very bottom of the company will have an idea that could revolutionize or at least improve an aspect of the business.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Target full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to make decisions, positively impact others professional and personal lives, ability to make mistakes and learn from them.

    Cons

Coattails matter. Along with most companies, unless you are riding on the coattails of a rising star it is tough to assume more responsibility. HQ is too involved in building-level decisions, often determining who is promote-able over what the senior level building leaders believe.

    Advice to Management

HQ management: guide from HQ, let building level senior managers make building decisions. Be the rails not the conductor.

I have been working at Target part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Flexible schedule - Easy-to-use POS system - Available store-to-store transfers (I currently transfer between the store near my college dorm and the store near my home during the summer) - Friendly atmosphere - There are supervisors (GSA/GSTL) who are always nearby to help you with any problems you run into - Cross- training for other departments is available (ex: a cashier can train to also work at Guest Service, on the floor, at the photo lab, etc)

    Cons

    - Only 10% discount (you are also forced to pay with cash if you don't have a REDcard or Target Giftcard) - Cashiers have to sell credit and debit cards to guests, and are sometimes reprimanded for not meeting their daily quota (it can be extremely difficult to convince a customer to sign up) - Hours are cut drastically following the holiday season (tip: if you are seasonal, this is when you should work your hardest to prove to HR that you are worth keeping around)

    Advice to Management

    - Place less pressure on employees to sell credit cards, because it is very distracting. - Train employees to spot coupon fraud, and fake checks (I had to teach myself this and had to learn the hard way by accidentally accepting a fake check) - Give each cashier a walkie talkie so that they can ask for help when the GSA is not around or is busy. - Allow cashiers to take it upon themselves to call team members on the floor to ask for bar codes, price checks, etc (would be much more efficient this way) -
