After 3 years here.... Very Disappointed

Current Employee - Team Leader  in  Charlotte, NC
Current Employee - Team Leader in Charlotte, NC

I have been working at Target full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Hours and Benefits are great.

Cons

Does not promote the most knowledgeable and experienced leaders from within.
Promotional opportunities are based on a certain, specific mold and criteria not having much to do with the business modules and goal plans.
Full credit is given to those who put on the "best show", instead of the ones who actually put in the best work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Business knowledge, great work ethic, and experience should be considered when promoting into higher leadership.

I worked at Target full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good folks in stores that care.

    Cons

“Experienced” Store supervisor’s micro manage every aspect and often bully team members causing dysfunction within all teams in a given store. Store management consistently displays passive aggressive behavior, lying tactics and a lack of integrity - too often this is common because lack of resources while held to unattainable expectations. Management and peer pressure practices used to get supervisors and team members to quit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop lying about how far you missed the mark expanding into Canada and how devastating the data breach in November 2013 has been to day to day operations to stores in the US. As a result of those catastrophic events you cannot continue to make cuts to stores and expect the same or even higher expectations. Realize your system is broken and your “do more with less” direction will not work any longer. Bullying management behaviors are a thing of the past and will not see you through this crisis.

I have been working at Target

    Pros

    - 6 weeks of training (Business College) for your specific role
    - Competitive pay, especially right out of college
    - 5% matching 401K
    - Tuition Reimbursement
    - Work 4 days a week, if working overnight. The company strives to give you good work and life balance.

    Cons

    - Overnight work culture is definitely not friendly. Some overnight ETL's treat team members very poorly.
    - It's almost a culture for team members to call out, and it is totally okay for them to not show up to work as long as they call. I believe much stricter rule has to be implied for lazy team members who do not take their job seriously.
    - HR's are too afraid to let go of team members or team leaders. If you have a HR who only looks after their own career, look luck with your efficiency and effectiveness at work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please place a stricter penalty for call outs. It is truly hurting the business.
