The expectations are out of control and respect from executives is non-existant as they think that they walk on water.

Pros

The only reason to work at Target is that the benefits are ok.

Cons

Pay is decided by who you know and how much they like you. Even though there is a grid to follow they can move codes around and do what they want to get better pay for the men in a team lead role. You can do the exact same job and have the same title but make up to 4 dollars less an hour. The expectations for a team leaders is out of control, they are expected to do the exact same as executive managers but without the pay or respect. Very unfair practices are being extended at Target. The union would be a great idea.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop sitting in the offices and know that you can get out on the sales floor and help the teams out, stop thinking that you walk on water and that all is beneath you. There is a huge dis-connect with executives, team leaders and the team members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't have any advice at this time. Target overall is a great place to work. Sometimes it seems that you could make more money at a different company doing a similar job.

Target is a great place to work, but trying to get promoted is crap.

I have been working at Target

    Pros

    Great Benefits/Vacation
Better work-life balance than comparable retail management positions
Expectations are clear and process is efficient and simple...basically anyone can be successful if they are smart.

    Cons

Target's motto says it all: "Expect More Pay Less." Each year they raise expectations for management to do more work, and pay raises are pitiful/insulting for most everyone in the store.
Promotions are 100% political and all about the interviews, not job skill/experience.
As far as retail goes, not the worst place for salaried management...but it's still retail management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Target needs to stop prioritizing hiring salaried management from the campus recruit program - that's a great way to hire cheap, but crappy management. Target also needs to put less weight on interviews, and more weight on work performance. Interviewing is ALWAYS important, but people who run poor work centers and are not liked by their peers are promoted simply because they interview well. That's just a stupid way to run a business.
