Pros

Target is a great company to work for if you don't want to be a pharmacist. The company is more focused on promoting pharmacists to upper level management than anything else. If you don't express interest in being promoted, watch out! They will find ways to write you up to try to get rid of you. Target does compensate very well- you will find that some staff pharmacists make more than managers. VERY low volume, easy job for the most part -if you aren't in management.

Cons

Target has really gone down-hill in the past few years. They spend so much time micromanaging you & the paperwork is overwhelming! They have cut back technician hours just like other companies are doing, too. You also feel like you are constantly being watched from the cameras in the pharmacy. Computer system is very old (PDX) & they keep promising new programming, but keep pushing the date back. They also make you go to meetings, etc withOUT pay.

    Pros

career development, training, leadership opportunities with high visibility upwards

    Cons

horrible work life balance, lack of accountability from Buyers, Business Analysts and Managers--there is too much time spent on passing blame rather than fixing the problem and preventing it from happening again. Also, the success of your career depends highly on what type of manager you have. You can be a rock star employee, but if you did something 4 years ago that rubbed your manager the wrong way, forget about being supported to move on.

Lastly, if you come into the company as a non exempt employee, expect to stay at that level for a LONG time. This company is horrible in the way they treat their non exempt employees, Mr. Steinhafel should be ashamed of himself.

    Advice to Management

Value ALL of your employees, not just one sector of your employee population. The sentiment that the company has towards its lower level employees starts with you, and it's a shame you have let it get as bad as it is.
