I have been working at Taunton Press

Pros

Work/life balance is very good with normal hours, on-site restaurant and cool learning opportunities (classes in woodworking, cooking, marketing etc.). They pay well enough for the area. Taunton is doing decently in a tough industry/economy and, while not a household name, is respected in the publishing world for high quality products.

Cons

Not really in the NYC/lower faifield county orbit. Small company with many long-term employees makes for a close environment (maybe that's a plus for some?).

I have been working at Taunton Press

    Pros

The culture, compensation, and benefits are all very good when compared else where. The HQ location is also located in a very picturesque location.

    Cons

The business is in transition to be more digital and the management change process has not been handled very well. The company is also very top heavy in management with numerous agendas and no clear direction from the top.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate better and run this as if it were your own business.

  2. Traditional company cannot transform to the digital landscape.

    I worked at Taunton Press

    Pros

Company has several niche brands that are 20-40 year old with a loyal audience.

    Cons

Company is holding onto the traditional world and having a hard time changing to digital. Spent huge sums of money on drupal and had trouble growing their audiences. Keeps firing new people and hiring new management without changing the company ways.
