Good for a year or two, but it won't last

    Pros

Good products. Nice office. 9 - 5 (or even less) is typical of 85% of workplace (this is a positive and a negative. There is not much personal engagement in making the company shine.)

    Cons

Senior management changes strategy and direction every year. Regular layoffs due to restructuring. Senior management does not provide mentorship due to lack of experience and, at times, awkward personalities. Communication within company is almost non-existent. If they could figure out how to work collaboratively, they might make some significant improvement. Workplace is not very dynamic.

    Advice to Management

Two things need to improve: 1) HR needs to be better in terms of hiring. Hire stronger candidates, provide mentorship, and leadership. 2) In 30+ years, marketing has always underperformed. You need to figure this out.

Taunton Press sr management enjoys fortune while turning blind eye to routine employee harassment and abuse.

    Pros

Location. There are very few professional jobs in the area. You want to learn about the traditional ways of publishing. You have no where else to go. You are old, tired and or not ambitious or business savy. You like to be a part of a sinking ship. You enjoy a dinosaur mentality. Great food, free parking!

    Cons

Senior management fosters an environment of negativity, harassment and abuse toward employees. Pay is well under what one needs to survive with a family in the area. Top Sales reps generate millions in advertising revenue and are grossly underpaid, verbally abused, intimidated and not allowed to reach upper management levels.

    Advice to Management

Sell the company to people who care about others; apologize and compensate all who worked hard but were abused and intimidated by DG for years. You hired him, empowered him and allowed him to routinely abuse good, hard working people. Many good, top performing people quit because of him.
