Pros

Real world experience in management, self control, pushing yourself to your limits, incredible rewards in helping under achieving schools turn around their classrooms.

Cons

You are pretty much on your own in a poorly managed school. If you don't want to be their, or aren't a self started, it will show.

    I worked at Teach for America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    + Talented and passionate people.
    + Everyone is on the same page regarding the mission. Completely selfless leadership.
    + Although everyone works incredibly hard, the work life balance is pretty strong. There are weekends and evenings from time to time but they are manageable.

    Cons

    - TFA is fast paced and high stakes. It can be emotionally exhausting fighting an uphill battle, which the organization is doing by trying to eliminate educational inequity.

    Pros

    Achieves great results with minimal resources
    Prepares people from outside of the education field quickly and efficiently
    Supports staff throughout 2-year commitment

    Cons

    Work hours require selfless individuals for 2-year commitment
    Training can seem redundant and painfully uneccessary
    The size of a region can lead to much dead-time spent driving to and from professional development
