I have been working at Teach for America full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Outstanding professional development, have had some great managers, expectations are clear, results-driven staff, meaningful work, colleagues are smart and dedicated.

Cons

Work/life balance can be challenging, often when settling into a new role. Culture (varies by team) is intense and sometimes a turn-off. Organization is growing and is having a structural identity crisis. Not sure the pay is competitive and raises have been small.

Culture-oriented, and for those passionate about Education Reform. Not for the faint of heart. Teaching is difficult.

I worked at Teach for America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

One of the most difficult yet satisfying things I've ever done. TFA worked closely with me to ensure I was receiving the professional development and support I needed (especially in the first year) to lead my students to success.

    Cons

Teaching at a high-need inner-city school isn't a cakewalk - long hours, weekend work and many Friday nights spent collapsing in my bed as soon as I got home.
