I have been working at Teachscape

Pros

The staff are some of the best and have extreme knowledge of the subject matter. Everyone is dedicated and works hard for the greater goal = more sales & more enrollments

Cons

Too many meetings hamper your ability to actually work. I can understand the need for meetings to put together processes and baselines but there are too many weekly one hour meetings that stretches into two hours.

Too much MBA-speak which is all fine but really must everyone spout buzz words with every sentence and meeting? More of an annoyance when you can just speak plain English instead of showing off your newly minted MBA status. And yes, I have an MBA too.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Great product and great focus on enrollments for partner universities but need to focus on getting the job done versus meetings on top of meetings with reports on top of reports on top of the same pivot table!

Great experiences, great clients, much time writing & planning, little support or recognition by senior management.

Nice colleagues and ambition, poor understanding of technology by management and too few resources.

I have been working at Teachscape

    Pros

Great colleagues, including some very capable ones. Ambition to improve education in America is a big plus for many who work here. Enthusiastic and forward looking culture.

    Cons

While improving, upper management has unrealistic expectations of what it takes to build software products. The culture is not very technology centric, which is alternatively a relief from the regular Bay Area scene, as well as a continuous source of frustration. Managers schedule meetings like that is the solution to everything, but then spend little time preparing beforehand. The people who have to do the work have to deal continuous interruptions and regular direction changes as a result of that. There are also way too few resources available for the work that is taken on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make Teachscape a technology company. Don't spend your money on more managers, but spend it on technical people and empower them. Break the meeting culture.
