Current Employee - Software Engineer
Current Employee - Software Engineer

I have been working at TeleNav

Pros

The company is growing fast, in terms of both number of employee and revenue. It seems they can go IPO in the near term

Cons

Engineers need to do a lot of communications with off shore developement sites. Unfortunately, due to the time zone difference, they means working late sometimes till 8 or 9pm.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The LBS business is highly competitive which mandates the company to innovate and to produce quality new product in order to be successful or just survive. The middle managers in general seems not very technically savvy. What is more, the marketing team seems even lacking the basic understanding of the software engineering cycle.

Great and interesting work. Company culture (depending on product group) may be too bottom-line/performance oriented.

I have been working at TeleNav

    Pros

Friendly and fun work atmosphere. Very broad types of work if you are a "T" shape person which means you're always busy with interesting projects. CEO is a great visionary person who is also very down to earth and approachable. All employees are "encouraged" to memorize the company's 7 habits, which I found differentiate TeleNav with most of my previous working experience.

    Cons

Growth within the company in terms of getting support from manager (depending on your product group) may be skewed toward favoritism of certain people the manager gets along with. Feedbacks from direct manager may be lacking and communications of these feedbacks are "one line" in the email subject type of feedbacks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more flexible in developing direct reports and be more aware of different types of working styles. Overall very strong management and leadership from CEO though so I will always recommend TeleNav.

I have been working at TeleNav

    Pros

    The work is pretty interesting.

    Cons

The company still feels like a startup even though there are over 400 employees worldwide.
Hardware is also hard to come by even if it's crucial for your project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide your teams with the support they need.
