One of the most demoralizing experiences; it got so bad I couldn't sleep the night before a new work week.

I worked at Telefunken Semiconductors as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Some good co-workers and the job itself could be interesting. Some nice attempts at boosting morale that I appreciated.

    Cons

A lot of coworkers will stab you in the back. The POCs treat you horribly if they're having a bad day. The supervisors are useless at solving conflicts and in fact the higher ups seem to relish causing conflicts. The upper management does not put enough money and staff into fixing tools (though the maintenance they have are awesome and do a great job given what resources they are allocated). There is barely any communication and the higher ups expect you to find out about meetings through the grapevine either the day before or hours before. Also, higher ups expect you to know everything about what is going on with your tool but then lecture you when you try to find out from maintenance about what's going on with your tool. There is not enough staff to cover expectations. There's no motivation and when you try to do anything to positively resolve a situation you inevitably are at the receiving end of someone's displeasure. Also, they seem to almost discourage taking your short breaks without breaking the law in doing so. They also have a hard time making up their minds from both day to day and hour to hour about what they want you to do. They seem to hire more on connections than anything else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good God improve your communication and stop allowing a few people to inform you about what is actually going on (believe me, what they tell you and what is actually happening are two different things). Do more to boost morale. Give more resources to maintenance. Stop sabotaging co-workers being friendly to each other it just lowers morale and decreases productivity. Also, bring in more resources to meet your goals instead of the opposite. And allow for the fact that your workers do know what they are doing and don't need you micromanaging everything and stop short cutting people's training. In short, your company is the Amy's Baking Company of electronics and you need to turn it around.

I have been working at Telefunken Semiconductors full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Compressed work week, 3 on 3 off, 4 on, 4 off. Health benefits.

    Cons

Morale is at an all time low. Unsupportive management, lack of communication, no company contributions to 401K. Lack of direction and focus.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start communicating with your employees. Spend your money on quality employees and needed supplies to keep the business operating. Make up your mind as to which direction the company is headed.
