Great people, still lots of change to come to remove the bureaucracy and take the company to the next level

I have been working at Telstra

Pros

Working on the latest new products, great people everywhere doing their best, most very switched on and dedicated at getting the best outcomes for the customer and the company. The chance to work on things that impact a large number of people.

Cons

Bureaucracy stifling real progress. Still a large degree of political play, silos, defending existing arrangements. Needs a massive cultural change if to succeed in a market that is slowly taking away the high margins it has enjoyed for years.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

First get some engineers or software professionals on the board. The place seems to be run by accounting decisions for short terms numbers - this may work for a short time, but will put the company in worse stead in the longer run.

I have been working at Telstra

    Pros

Working with worlds best technology & some of the most talented people I've ever encountered - their passion for the company and their jobs makes the business the success it is

    Cons

There is a HUGE gap between the SLT and Operational mgmt. The EDs in TEG are unable to work together as their personal agendas rule. Of the EDs, I can't think of one that has the necessary people and leadership skills to transform the business to meet the SLT goals. David Thodey needs to seriously reconsider his senior bench and throw out the one below that level entirely.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

David Thodey and Paul Geason need to get an accurate and direct line to the rank and file - they need to really understand what's going on in the business and how it's the bureaucracy and pettiness of management that is holding the organisation back. Check your managers' EQ and people skills - most are a vacuum. How can you have inspired and meaningful leadership when you lack leaders?

I have been working at Telstra

    Pros

Got to work with fantastic people who are around the same age and would be great long time friends socially. You get training sessions on new products

    Cons

You are treated as if u are replaceable. You have KPi's on everything and cannot do ur job properly if u pass them. They tell u First call resolution BUT only if it's less than their Average Call HAndling TIme! When u Start u get training on products and prices but not on situations and scenarios. The Bonus structure can be met however it's capped and it's currently 3 months behind. If u have a problem with anyone it's very hard to raise the issue as all management are friends and it's perceived that U Are causing the problem. It's too hard to transfer and if u have a personal problem that might need time off or help at work they treat u like ur lying or ur retarded and can't do ur job and will start to pick on u until u end up quiting

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Without knowledge employees the business would not succeed . U emphasis on first call resolution but if u want to make ur KPi's finish the call within 20 mins no matter what. There's no growth potential until someone in management quits and there's no cross communication b/w telstra direct and TElstra Licenced stores which in the end makes a bad customer experience
