Pros

Teradata has a great product line, very intelligent workers, and tremendous focus on what it wants to do. Management is competent and focused.

Cons

Because of its roots with NCR the company is very conservative and risk averse. There are many managers who are afraid to make mistakes.

Advice to Management

The company would benefit from a more entrepreneurial approach to business. There is too much structure and risk aversion that prevents it from capitalizing on real opportunities.

    Pros

Many of the employees have been there for over 10 years. I have never seen such longevity in other companies that I've worked for. The work-life balance is healthy. The compensation is decent. Benefits are good.

    Cons

The people have been working at Teradata for so long that they've become stale with their ideas. The company doesn't seem invested in innovation, with their own products or with their own methods. They need to hire new talent but the workplace just isn't attractive to potential hires that are looking for a hot, high tech place to work. Teradata is not that place.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to cut the bureaucracy and find a faster way to get things done. There is so much processing and rules to adhere to. It is quite inefficient.

Once leading edge technology being eroded by new technologies and overly cautious senior management

    Pros

Great co-workers, who are smart, caring, family friendly. A good place to get immersed in the world of business analytics and real time business decision making. Sales Operations and Marketing are very well run organizations

    Cons

No career advancement. Senior management is just the same group of rotating sales people with no technology skills or innovative thinking. Company is unwilling to take risks to remain viable in a rapidly changing market landscape. Senior management is unwilling to listen to newer voices with fresh ideas, and appears genuinely afraid of those who may not think like they do. Engineering is understaffed and under funded to compete with newer technologies and competitors with deeper pockets.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting your friends and bring in some innovative thinkers with fresh ideas. There is strength in bringing people to the team who don't have 'group think' mentality.
