Pros

Many people are very smart, helpful, have good ideas, and good intentions.

Cons

TD management does not understand the basics of the business, so they can't evaluate their employees. They don't trust the employees, don't show respect, treat people like children, scold for the slightest infraction of their myriad policies. They call us "associates", but there is no profit sharing. Leadership can't communicate effectively the goals, strategies, or upcoming events. There is very poor organization, poor morale, and no room to be creative. There are a lot of open reqs because so many people are leaving, even in this economy which is the worst since 1930's!

Advice to Management

Put people in charge who understand the technology and encourage employee progress. Emphasize clear goals and open communication. The temps in HR are not even conducting exit interviews on all the people who are resigning and taking jobs at other companies. You are letting a lot of talent walk out the door and more people are planning to leave due to the frustrating policies and processes. Don't just assume the RB group is all "very smart people". There are several people who know NOTHING and make life difficult for so many... Employees won't waste their time forever, hoping that Teradata will improve.

    Pros

    Intelligent and dedicate work force
    Incredible core database product
    Employee dedication despite management structire

    Cons

Grind you to dust work mentality
Senior Management still thinks like NCR in the 80's
Confused Product management plan sponsors competitors over internal solutions
Compensation lags the industry severely even though management tries to suggest it is in line
Moral is sinking extremely fast in many areas
Product Quality is no longer a top priority, stock price rules the day every day

    Advice to Management

Ignore wall street and refocus on creating a top notch product across all applications. Create an integrated core offering that can deliver all aspects of a business and stop being the biggest opponent to your own applications. Either push them as the key to growth moving forward or spin them off and focus solely on Data Warehousing.

Peers are friendly. Corp structure is flat. People work diligently, but ineffectively.

Good work-life balance with flexible working hours
Business is in a good position to grow dramatically (if executed correctly)
Not much political game playing at workplace
A good mix of talents, old and young, experienced and fresh

    Cons

Some processes exist just because they are predefined and existing.
Compensation is low for talented employees
Groups and product teams work in silos without sufficient communication across.
Management is afraid of change and risk.
Some people tend not to break out of their comfort zones and experiment with new ideas

    Attract more younger talents
Listen to the foot soldiers and provide executive coaching more
Reeducate the middle management and line managers
Be cautiously aggressive, more on aggresiveness though
Become a leader of innovation in Data Warehousing/BI again
