Pros

Everyone works remotely, so the work is incredibly flexible! You work what ever hours you need, and this enables total flexibility for personal life management. It's incredible how flexible the environment is.

People are generally nice-- and have very long tenures. People are very loyal to the company.

Cons

Work is boring, people are committed to mediocre quality. Lots of time spent doing work that yields little or no benefit. I feel like I spend a lot of time doing busy work that means very little. Organization is also 100% sales driven, which limits its ability to be strategic or long range.

Advice to Management

Enable strategic, industry specific approaches to market, and limit tactical approaches to going-to-market.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule - may work from home.
    Co-workers are friendly and helpful.
Lot's of opportunities to make a real contribution to the product.
Job security - it's been a long time since the last layoff and there are always open job reqs.

    Cons

    Too many processes and procedures.
E-mail is abused. Too many requests for help from managers and others reduces time for working on actual features, and may cause some stress.

    Advice to Management

Try to get rid of or streamline old procedures/requirements to reduce the extra work you give to engineers that may distract from feature development.

    Pros

Many people are very smart, helpful, have good ideas, and good intentions.

    Cons

TD management does not understand the basics of the business, so they can't evaluate their employees. They don't trust the employees, don't show respect, treat people like children, scold for the slightest infraction of their myriad policies. They call us "associates", but there is no profit sharing. Leadership can't communicate effectively the goals, strategies, or upcoming events. There is very poor organization, poor morale, and no room to be creative. There are a lot of open reqs because so many people are leaving, even in this economy which is the worst since 1930's!

    Advice to Management

Put people in charge who understand the technology and encourage employee progress. Emphasize clear goals and open communication. The temps in HR are not even conducting exit interviews on all the people who are resigning and taking jobs at other companies. You are letting a lot of talent walk out the door and more people are planning to leave due to the frustrating policies and processes. Don't just assume the RB group is all "very smart people". There are several people who know NOTHING and make life difficult for so many... Employees won't waste their time forever, hoping that Teradata will improve.
