I worked at Terenine

Pros

Great collegial staff, faith based organization. Decent technology, modest benefits, plenty of free parking, interesting business model. Flexible working hours, casual dress.

Cons

Struggling to gain market share in a niche marketplace, some members of management at director level are inexperienced. Significant attrition at senior technologist levels.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on selling what you can deliver, not a pie in the sky solution. Invest in training your remaining staff.

I have been working at Terenine

    Pros

Knowledgeable technical staff that likes to teach
    Access to good technology
    Immaculate data centers
    Friendly co-workers
    Free coffee
Exposure to technology that is more high tech than most in the region and for the size

    Cons

Horrible communication, especially from senior management down
Out right and open dishonesty from some in management positions
Not enough staffing in technologist positions (because turn over is too high)
Management likes to take credit and shift blame

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop shifting seats on a sinking ship and thinking that it will make it stay afloat

There is over 30% turnover, at least acknowledge that there is a problem.

Communicate, not talk, communicate. There is a difference. Talking is just making noise. Communication is doing it with actual thought and intent.

Reign in the people that need to be reigned in...people should be able to disagree with someone that has the word "Director" in their title without being shouted down in a room full of their peers.

Listen to your employees. Listening does not mean that you have to agree or make a change, but it does convey that you at least care

    I worked at Terenine full-time

    Pros

Chattanooga is a very scenic and wonderful city
The people were good to work with and the environment was casual
Vast Majority of days I went home on time
Good Equipment, and at least attempted to stay up to date.

    Cons

Don't expect to advance very far unless you are a fundamentalist Christian who believes the world was formed in seven days.
Management seemed to turnover with great frequency, and never could quite settle on a coherent strategy.
Little accountability and desire to do great things with their applications.
Too tied to an old and precarious business model, and unwilling to move beyond it.
Just too much turnover, particularly for people with technological expertise, to do anything effectively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cool it with the right wing theocratic dominionist nonsense, and develop a strong and coherent management strategy, and stick with it for at least a year or so.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
