I worked at Tetra Tech full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The Human Resources and GIS Departments were great to work with. IT support was good too.

Cons

Very high turnover in senior and junior staff and management. Few women in senior positions - certainly no where close to the 50 percent it should be. No training at the start - you are placed at a desk and then you are on your own. Written requests to management went unanswered - it was like a black hole. (eg, change of status, training and conference requests, etc). Little cooperation between the field scientists and much of the work is for the fossil fuel industry. The renewable energy department is non-existant and undersupported. The client-firm relationship is too friendly, favoritism abounds, and field observations were skewed in the reports, or buried, or in at least one instance, completely changed. Too many yes men.

The office where I worked is not on a bus line for those who perfer public tranportation. There are a few individuals who are personally concerned with sustainability and even handled empting the recycling bins, but its pretty much a green wash.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The new fossil fuel iniative announced by Corporate is folly in both the short and long term.

I worked at Tetra Tech full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

A large company with a good balance sheet that keeps people steadily employed. Can work on interesting projects if you network well within the company. Work place conditions are often pretty laid back, business casual or less required. Company is well known amongst others within the A/E community, good professional respect from colleagues elsewhere.

    Cons

Tetra Tech is a big company comprised of many acquisitions and each company operates separately. Incredibly frustrating to be chasing same clients within the same geographic area and management has absolutely zero interest in changing this culture. For over 10 years the company has does absolutely nothing to better integrate all the individual companies. When visiting an office in a new location you are treated like a visitor from a competitor and not at all part of the same company. Transferring to a different office is like applying for a new job. All the various P&L centers hoard work and will use your qualifications to win work that they have no intention of sharing with you. Salaries at Tetra Tech are definitely on the lower side in the industry and time office allowance is ridiculously limited.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Integrate the subsidiaries so that the company actually feels like one company and not a whole bunch of branch offices protecting their local turf.

I have been working at Tetra Tech full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Most of the people who work at Tetra Tech are great people to work with. Good training for project managers, interesting projects to work on.

    Cons

Leadership & workplace philosophy are not consistent from one location to another. You can go to one location where people can telecommute, set their own hours, or where people move around all day to talk with coworkers about projects, and at the next location, everyone is expected to be at their workstations in their seats from 8-5. Management is not consistent on how they treat and review their employees. Communication between groups could be better. Some groups compete against each other for the same work instead of sharing the work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train supervisors on how to manage people, so there is consistency in the treatment of employees. Train management to work together instead of competing with each other.
