I worked at Texas Health and Human Services Commission full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Benefits, job stability, before call center - interaction with customers

Cons

supervisors was on power kick, said derogatory comments about workers and clerks plus all clients. used fowl language. supervisors have been caught stealing from other companies and this agency will rehire them. co workers have a gang banger attitude since they have gang members in their families. you only get promoted by how much you brown nose

Advice to ManagementAdvice

hire ones that know how to manage and not on a power kick. very immature and some of them have been around for 20 years

I worked at Texas Health and Human Services Commission as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Good compensation and benefits, even as an intern/temporary employee.

    Cons

Very large agency; sometimes difficult to coordinate/complete projects in a timely manner due to complex organizational chart and bureaucratic processes.

I have been working at Texas Health and Human Services Commission full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great place to start

    -Flexible work schedule
-Friendly staff (one of the best reasons to work anywhere)
-Retirement Benefits/Pension (although this won't last)

    Cons

Not a place to stay, or expect a long term career.

    -Noncompetitive compensation
-Every session they raise costs for employee benefits. (Which counter cost of living increases.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Current conditions are just not suitable for any new to mid level employee to maintain loyalty.

The erosion of benefits for the state worker deteriorates the offset in lower compensation for similar tech jobs. Once a tech employee reaches intermediate or better skill set, they will move on.
