Former Employee - Electrical Design Engineer in Dallas, TX

I worked at Texas Instruments full-time for more than 5 years

Pros

Large established infrastructure worldwide, good benefits in the US.

Cons

Just like leaders of many other publicly traded companies TI managers are mostly focused on impressing investors. This culture spreads through all levels of the company. It does not matter what you do, it only matters what your boss think you do.
The company has very few innovative products. Product designed decades ago generate most of the revenue.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Build true engineering company, do not hire so many clueless MBAs to manage engineers, respect engineers, they are not just tools.

I have been working at Texas Instruments full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    1. Latest technology
    2. Lot of responsibilities. Good chance to learn a lot
    3. You will get to work with the best people in the industry
    4. Flexible timings and great compensation

    Cons

    1. Poor work life balance. Long meetings (5~6 hours a day). Will end up putting 16 hours a day at work overall.
    2. No job security. Layoff is a quarterly ritual. Will be working with a knife under the neck
    3. Company is more focused toward analog business. Not a good place for digital engineers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Business plan should be well thought. If a business is going down, efforts should be made to improve the business. Shutting down all the divisions will only shrink the company.
