Pros

Many of the programmer's are sharp and top notch
Generally everyone is easy to work with
There are a lot of fun state of the art things you get to work on
Very flexible work environment
Great office spaces with available views of the greenbelt, you don't necessarily work in a cube.
Close to home
Management does give out lots of certificates and lunches for jobs performed well.

Cons

You feel like a consultant, but aren't paid for extra hours
Management seems to occassionally lack direction
Raises and bonuses are not great for the general employee population
Benefits are mediocre compared to other companies
Tech leads don't get paid any more than a senior programmer.

Advice to Management

Compensate the employees that are landing you contracts or they will get another job. Provide more of a direction to developers so they can more easily plan tasks. Make the tech lead a position that not only has more importance, but increases compensation for the tech lead.

    Pros

One of the best things about Overwatch Systems is they are very flexible with work schedules. Taking time off is fairly easy and engineers do not always need to report when they will be out.

    Cons

There is no way for engineers to work remotely. This makes life challenging when working loads of overtime. Projects tend to end at Christmas time, so that is when the engineers are working the most overtime.

    Advice to Management

Allow developers to log in to the network more easily so that they can work from home sometimes. Pay and benefits need to be improved now that additional compensation is not an option.

    Pros

Close to home. Great people working here and I have formed lots of great relationships. Salary and benefits are good. Good job security. Interesting work.

    Cons

Development environment is lagging by several years - mostly because of the glacial pace of the DoD. Working in a closed development environment is very constraining. Excessive process.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time studying what the current state of technology is and provide more vision, direction and leadership. It would be nice to have a Steve Jobs calling the shots.
