Advice to Management

    Pros

Working on an important mission that truly effects the wider world
Lots of talented people and decent resource levels
Good name recognition in Boston and surrounding areas

    Cons

This once great establishment is now rife with infighting and political battles over product direction, who controls what and how decisions are made. Treatment of employees are at an alltime low, with developers and programmers working nights, weekends and nearly around the clock to deliver on major projects. This has led to an exodus of top talent in all areas of the business. Self promotion and short term goals are taking a backseat to thoughtful and visionary leadership.

    Advice to Management

Stop promoting those who are most self promoting or most aggressive. Stop setting deadlines arbitrarily and racing toward them like Patton crossing Europe. Let go of the past, and find ways to make real money with digital products, rather than devising schemes to protect the dying print business.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

A great opportunity to work in a place that means something to people
Wonderful people (for the most part)
Opportunity to be exposed to many aspects of media and advertising

    Cons

    Constant layoffs
    Sell rumors
Try lots of things with little follow through on most things
Some things have been run the same way for 160 years

    Advice to Management

There's lots of talk about change but people always seem to revert to their comfort zone. Make the environment more open to real change and empower people to take calculated risks.
